Meet Christian Weaver, a business analyst at Liberty Mountain.
My road to Liberty Mountain started with a family
that loved the outdoors. I grew up in Southern Utah with a father who was into
canyoneering before it was even a thing. Back then, my father simply called it
‘hiking’. It was not uncommon for him to try descending a random ‘depression’ that he found on a topographical map of Southern
Utah. I accompanied my father on several of his explorations of random slot
canyons.
My family also had a tradition where at eight
years of age we got to go on an overnight hike with our father. The first
overnight backpacking trip I went on was the West Rim Trail in Zion National
Park. I have
continued that tradition with my oldest two boys and taken them both
down the same trail for their first overnight trip.
It wasn’t until High School that I got into
climbing. I really did not know anyone who climbed, so my friends and I would
often go to the local outdoor store, ask a lot of questions and then buy the
gear that we thought we needed. This may have not been the best approach. I
recall climbing my first lead on a route with 18 bolts and using just 4 quick
draws. Without any climbing mentors, my learning curve was obviously steep. In
some ways I think I was very fortunate to make it into my 20’s.
Since graduating school, I have returned to Utah
where I continue to climb and camp with my family, and drag my awesome (and
very brave) friends down a slot canyon or two. My love of outdoor adventures is
what drew me to and keeps me at Liberty Mountain.
