New Beal Rope Wins Three Awards

After making its back-to-back debut at the OutDoor Friedrichshafen and Outdoor Retailer trade shows, the new Beal Gully 7.3mm Unicore climbing rope was honored with three industry-awards for its advancements in design and function.

The Beal Gully was one of eleven products to receive the prestigious OutDoor Industry GOLD Award during the OutDoor show in July. This award is reserved for the products that show outstanding achievements in the fields of design and innovation. In presenting the award, the judges had this to say about the Gully, “The Beal Gully double rope is a great product: although it has a small diameter, it is ideally suited for use as a high rope and offers climbers a maximum degree of safety.”

The Beal Gully is a certified dynamic twin and half-rope that is suited for cutting-edge alpine and ice ascents. Weighing in at 36 grams per meter and having a diameter of 7.3mm, the Gully carries the title of being the lightest and thinnest dynamic half-rope. When used as a half-rope, the Gully delivers an extremely low impact force of 7.2kN. What makes the Beal Gully even more amazing is the fact that the core and sheath are permanently bonded together with Unicore. To make this rope excel in any environment and weather, the Gully’s core and sheath are individually treated with a superior water and abrasion resistant treatment called Golden Dry.

At the Outdoor Retailer show in August, The Beal Gully was honored to take home two awards. In searching for the “most innovative, exciting, and trend-setting products,” the Beal Gully caught some attention with Gear Institute and received the Best New Gear Award for not only being the thinnest and lightest dynamic half-rope, but for also being equipped with Unicore and for having both its core and sheath treated to fight water and abrasion.

Gear Junkie labeled the Gully as their “favorite” and “best new gear on the planet” by giving it their Best In Show Award. They loved how the rope was able to increase strength and safety while still being super thin and “airy”.

Unicore is an astonishing process the bonds a rope’s sheath and core without affecting the ropes suppleness and dynamics. If the sheath is cut or torn, the core and sheath remain together. Unicore prevents sheath slippage and bunching, as well as any unnecessary unraveling of the sheath and inner core twisting. Every filament of the sheath and the core of Golden Dry treated ropes is treated with a water and abrasion repellent chemical before the rope is manufactured. This chemical covering is polymerized at high temperature. The durability of this treatment is given by the polymerization, but also because of the individual treatment of each filament before the rope is made. Key features: Very limited weight gain in wet conditions, prevents the rope thickening too much, improved rope-running through carabiners and belay devices, improved abrasion resistance in normal climbing use.
